Nap Nanny Blamed in 8-Month-Old Infant’s Death

According to reports, a few months ago in March, the Nap Nanny claimed yet another child victim, an eight-month-old baby.

The child’s parents said they set the baby down for bed and came back to check on him a few hours later, but found their child dead, stuck between the Nap Nanny and the side of the crib.

babyIt is unclear at this time where the family bought the Nap Nanny, or when they acquired it. However, in 2012 many online retailers made the decision to stop carrying the product after several reports of its potential dangers. Then, in June 2013, the Nap Nanny and Chill Infant Recliners, all made by Baby Matters, were recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Baby Matters is no longer in business.

According to the CPSC, the Nap Nanny is responsible for more than 90 incidents of babies hanging or falling out of the products and five deaths. While the agency instituted a mandatory product recall, plucking the unit from all primary markets, the product has still been available at secondary markets, including garage sales, online marketplaces and even thrift stores.

Whenever a company makes a defective product, it can be held liable for all damages that it causes to customers who use the product as it is intended. As for the Nap Nanny, this would include any normal use of the infant recliner.

If you or someone you care for has recently been injured or killed by a defective product, you may be entitled to financial compensation to cover any medical expenses as well as for any pain and suffering the accident caused. When it comes to a wrongful death claim caused by a defective product, you may also be awarded monetary compensation for your loss.
