The man was traveling on his 2007 Harley Davidson around 5:38 p.m. when he apparently lost control of the vehicle.

Investigators believe he then traveled onto the south shoulder of the road where he collided with some trees and shrubs, causing him to be ejected from the motorcycle.

FHP claims the man was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that helmets condense the probability of a motorcycle fatality by 37 percent. While numerous independent studies have demonstrated that motorcycle helmets reduce injury and possibly save lives, wearing a helmet and other protective gear does not guarantee a motorcyclist will survive a crash or dodge a serious injury. Even with a helmet and protective eyewear, traumatic brain injury, loss of limbs, paralysis, broken bones, road rash and many other injuries may result from a motorcycle accident.
