A gas leak at an Inverness apartment complex Sunday resulted in five residents being evacuated for approximately two hours. No one was injured.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Fire Rescue was dispatched at 2:58 p.m. to the site of the natural gas leak. The leak was coming out from the roadway in two different locations. The report indicates that the gas line was struck by a contractor laying communication lines.
Florida Public Utilities was contacted to secure the leak. A Haz Mat unit was requested for atmospheric monitoring of the location.
The incident was brought under control and residents were allowed to reenter their homes by 3:48 p.m.
Any gas leak, including natural gas leaks from pipelines into homes and apartment complexes, can cause severe problems. Gas leaks can result in explosions that can lead to serious personal injuries and wrongful death. When a gas leak occurs it is typically because some type of error occurred to compromise the safety of others. Unfortunately, these errors are usually the result of carelessness or negligence. Leaks are often hard to detect, leaving victims with no warning signs. If you or someone you love suffered an injury or death after a toxic gas leak, the Citrus County Injury Attorneys at Whittel & Melton can help you pursue a lawsuit against any responsible parties.
When toxic fumes leak into homes or businesses, the results can be grave. Many of these fumes are silent and odorless, while others can be easily detected. Either way, these inhalant chemicals can lead to devastating injuries, including internal damage. While the presence of a toxic chemical alone is dangerous enough, gas is combustible which can quickly lead to an explosion delivering catastrophic burn injuries to innocent and unsuspecting victims.
