A 27-year-old Inverness man was killed Friday night after he apparently lost control of his car and collided into a tree.
The Florida Highway Patrol pronounced him dead at the scene.
He was headed east on County Road 48 in Sumter County Friday night just after 10 p.m. FHP officials believe the man over-corrected after his vehicle veered onto the south shoulder of the roadway, ultimately causing him to smash into the tree.
The accident is currently under further investigation.
Car accidents can be caused by a variety of factors, but driver error is a leading contributor. The most common driver errors that result in auto accidents include driving at excessive speeds, unsafe passing, following other cars too closely, failure to yield the right of way and disregarding traffic control devices. In fact, nearly 30 percent of all car accident fatalities can be attributed to speeding motorists and those driving recklessly. Another 40 percent of auto accident tragedies occur due to intoxicated or impaired drivers.
There are factors other than driver negligence that can contribute to an auto collision. An improperly designed roadway or misplaced road sign or barricade can lead to devastating car crashes. Liability in these types of accidents usually lies with the government agency responsible for the design and maintenance of the road. While road defect collisions can be complex, an Inverness Auto Accident Lawyer at Whittel & Melton can make sure the responsible parties are held accountable for their negligence.
