A 24-year-old Floral City man was killed last month while crossing an intersection in Hernando, Florida on an early Saturday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident that occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on North Croft Avenue, an area that is considered to be dimly lit.
The man was apparently struck by a 20-year-old Inverness man driving a 1992 Honda Accord.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The FHP claims alcohol was not a factor in the collision, and no charges have been filed.
Accidents involving pedestrians and motor vehicles often result in serious injuries. A pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle may end up pinned underneath the vehicle, slammed against the windshield or hood or even thrown over the top of the automobile. The injuries suffered in these types of accidents may include broken bones and fractures, neck and back injuries, brain and spinal cord injuries, scarring, disfigurement and in many cases, death.
Intersection collisions account for a large number of pedestrian accidents in Florida. Motorists disregarding a pedestrian’s right-of way, traveling at unsafe speeds, ignoring traffic signals or making illegal turns are likely to hit pedestrians in crosswalks or intersections. When these types of collisions occur, the driver may be responsible for the injuries or death they cause. Pedestrian accident victims and their families must seek legal help in order to protect their rights and obtain the maximum recovery for their injuries or losses. Unfortunately, insurance companies will do anything to obtain the lowest settlement amount possible. The Citrus County Injury Lawyers at Whittel & Melton can handle your pedestrian injury or wrongful death claim and fight for the fair settlement value you deserve.
